When the browser build stalls

Most first-session problems are boring: a large download, a blocked script, a muted tab, or an in-app browser. Work through those before you assume the authorized build is broken.

Start with the load, not a new file

The homepage player is an authorized Unity WebGL build. The first start pulls a large data file, about 96 MB. Most "it is broken" reports are that download, a blocked script, or an in-app browser. Work through the list below before you hunt for an unofficial installer.

If you wanted a Windows or Android package instead, stop here and use the official itch download page. This site will not hand you an APK as a workaround.

Desktop versus phone

Desktop Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari is the clearer path for dialogue and for the first download. On a phone, rotate to landscape, keep zoom at 100 percent, and enter fullscreen after the build appears. The mobile page is the longer version of that setup.

If you arrived from a social app, leave the in-app browser. Unity WebGL often fails there even when the same phone works in a real browser.

When the itch install is the thing that stalls

Gilang's official itch page tells players not to panic if the downloadable build resists closing, and that this is not malware. That note does not apply to closing a browser tab. If an itch file will not launch, verify you downloaded it from the official listing, not from a mirror. Gilang has already flagged at least one unofficial file as a scam.

The official development log also describes an automatic save system on the itch build. If a save is missing, confirm you are in that hosted package and not in a fresh browser session.

Still stuck?

Email the site contact page with the page URL, device, browser, and whether the Unity progress bar moved. Do not attach installers or APKs. While you wait, you can still read the mood guide and the spoiler-safe ending counts, then try Play Nate now in another browser.

Troubleshooting FAQ

The Unity bar is stuck or crawling.

The first launch downloads a large data file, about 96 MB. Keep the tab open until the progress indicator finishes. Refreshing mid-load starts the download again. If it stalls for several minutes, refresh once, then try another current desktop browser.

The frame stays black after I press Play.

Wait before you assume it failed. Allow JavaScript, then click inside the frame. Strict privacy extensions can block the game files; allow this site and try again. A hard reload can clear a stale shell without needing a new installer.

There is no sound.

Click or tap inside the player. Browsers often block audio until that interaction. Check the tab mute icon and the system output device. The story stays readable without sound; the atmosphere does not.

Buttons feel offset on a phone.

Return browser zoom to 100 percent, rotate to landscape, and use the fullscreen control after the build loads. If the canvas is still cramped, exit fullscreen, return to portrait, then rotate back.

It misbehaves inside Instagram, TikTok, or Discord.

In-app browsers are a common failure point for Unity WebGL. Open the page in Safari, Chrome, Firefox, or Edge instead of staying inside a social app webview.

The downloadable itch build will not close.

Gilang's official itch page says not to panic if that build resists closing, and that it is not a virus. That note is about the creator-hosted install, not this browser player. Close this site by leaving the tab or exiting fullscreen.
